Trying to reduce monthly outgoings...

Hi, I did look for somewhere relevant to post this but couldn't see anything.
Recently, as I'm sure everyone knows, things have been getting tighter every month, so my partner and I looked at our monthly outgoings to see where we could cut back. We decided that our package with BT (phone, broadband and BT Vision) was expensive at £75-£85 per month especially considering the poor quality service (we lose internet connection on a regular, if not daily basis, most often while watching On Demand programmes) and the very poor selection of programming available on On Demand.
Anyway, I called BT to reduce our packages, which would have saved us up to £50 a month. I was told in no uncertain terms that as these were the packages I signed up to (18 months ago) I must keep them for the length of the contract. I explained that circumstances had changed in 18 months but the guy on the phone just kept repeating the same line and could not have cared less!
I was not looking to leave BT, but I certainly am now!
I know I can't leave until my contract ends without incurring charges but I wanted to warn people that if you are considering a new contract with BT, one should also consider that if your circumstances change, they will not care, nor will they do anything at all to keep you as a customer.
Keep smiling!

What package did you sign up to? When I checked, it was a 12 month minimum subscription, with a £199 charge if you cancelled before the 12 months was up.0

I don't know what the packages are called but it was a 24 month contract... It was a fantastic deal at the time, until the introductory offers ended.0
