It is always useful to contact the retailer, just to have a timeline of events even if they don't repair it and ask you to contact Hoover yourself.

Since I'm not sure (and im sure Esquil can help here) who repairs Hoover washing machines under contact with Currys I'm going to assume that Hoover carry out repairs on Currys behalf.

Since you have no legal contract with Hoover, Currys can ask either you contact hoover to arrange a repair, or they will act as the go-between (this is more hassle for both parties, but Currys will do it as per their obligation under the SoGA), if Hoover engineers say that it is accidental damage, in Currys eyes that is as good as a report (the SoGA doesn't state that it has to be independent) and as per the SoGA explain they will no longer be carrying out any repairs or replacements as the item has been misused. You are then either going to take it to court (and you'll probably lose straight away as Currys has a report from experts saying you damaged it and you don't have any defence) or you will have to get a independant report done stating that the damage is not caused by what you put in the washing machine.

Now you and Currys have one report each, and it'll go two ways, probably Currys will apologise for the time taken and refund the report and repair the machine, or they'll dispute your report (maybe send their own engineers out to double check) and you have to take them to court and let a judge decide which report is more believable/watertight.

phew, wow thank you all so much for your advice...

I did go direct to Hoover, I shall contact Currys today and see where this leaves me - they put me straight through to Hoover!

I felt forced to take the cover as the engineer said I wouldn't get it fixed and would have to pay a call out charge as it 'was my fault'... I asked what he had found and he replied nothing, although after some probing he then told me 'found some material (In the sump) which may have been caught between the drum and outer casing - this would have occured due to me over loading the machine, this material caused the plastic from the outer casing to break, however it most definately is not what caused the hole in the pipe! he had being in this business for 14 years and my love!! he knows what he is talking about and he didnt have time for all this and needed an answer or he was going.

Also when reporting to Hoover the first thing i was asked was did i take out the £70 cover!? the next questions did i wash any bra's apptly you cant wash bra's in the washing machine, next did i want to take out this cover now?!... this is prob why i feel ripped off.

My question surely having not being told that i cant wash clothing in my washing machine on purchase, does this not deem my washing machine as not fit for purpose??!!

I think you may be taking their words out of their mouths, I believe they ask if you've washed any bra's in it, is because Bra's have (usually) wire support which can become loose and damage the system. Just search google for Hoover washing machine bra wire, and you'll see that it's a massive problem with the underwire and for future use I'd suggest a lingerie bag to put all your delicates in and then wash them in the bag along with your other clothing.

Anyway, I do doubt they said "Washing bra's will invalidate the warranty", they more likely asked if you washed any bra's, and if you said yes or no their answer would be to take care/check for loose wire.

Ask Hoover for a refund of your accidental cover insurance (which incidentally you can cancel anyway within 45 days of purchase) and ask Currys for either a repair or replacement at their cost, not yours.

Will the OP be entitled to a refund since now they will have been deemed to have claimed on the policy?

Just to confirm what CHC said, Hoover (currently) do repairs on behalf of Currys.
