I paid the card off a year ago and no longer have it.

It was while doing a bit of research in relation to the original post that those links grabbed my attention. They explain everything about how a current account morphed into a credit card without any proper notice or notification.

As I said above NODDLE has it definitely recorded as a credit card, but the links explain why this is simply a 'best fit' on behalf of the agencies because it's a fairly unique product.

I used to work for bos and hbos when they merged. The pref acc is a debit card and therefore the acc number on it is a debit card one. Its basically an overdraft. Parts of the acc number or long number on the card identify which bank issued it and the type of card it is. Barclays probably won't be able to override this. Ask them to give U a money transfer to your current acc instead with 0% for same term(super balance transfer) and pay it off manually. They should be able to sort that and is probably the easiest option
Well in response to this suggestion and the 2 hr phone call with HBOS on an 0845 number:mad: . HBOS have actually just suggested I try to do exactly what you suggest here. No doubt when I call barclaycard AGAIN to the offshore call centre, I will have to go through the same rigmarol to eventually talk to someone here in the UK. HBOS have just told me that the preference account card IS a debit card!!!!! I have disputed this on the basis of what I was told by HBOS on at least 3 occasions that the card is a CREDIT CARD. I have now gone through to the HBOS complaints department and awaiting a call from them today or tomorrow! I have stated to them that HBOS have conceded that this card is a credit card and that I will not accept being fobbed off when they obviously are giving out misinformation in different departments. Meanwhile Barclaycard still insist the fault is with HBOS. I'm now inclined to believe this. What a mess!

It is a credit account so that's probably why it shows as credit card but it came with cheque book and switch card

Latest straight from the HBOS complaints dept. They have offered me £50 by way of compensation for misinformation regarding them telling me that there was no reason for Barclaycard not being able to do the balance transfer as the account was a credit account. I refused that and next step is financial ombudsman. The HBOS advisor said he'd pay the £50 as a good will gesture into my account anyway!?!? Even though I refused the offer!!!
