'Premium Bonds' are a good investment from what I've seen, one of two wins a year and it's better than your average savers interest rate.
The prize pot is 1.5%. They are dreadful as an investment.
Also picking up a few shares in 'water' could prove handy with all this drought business. Recentally china invested large sums in UK water companies so things may be on the move there soon, and as a stock market broker was saying only the other day, sooner or later water will be traded just like any other commodity (which currentally is against the law and so it should be imo!). But these are the times we live in.
Single company shares are a high risk approach for a relatively modest amount.
Other than that fossile fuels (petrol, coal) and utiiltys (gas, water, leccy) are usually ones for of the safer bets, and possibly things of a medical nature/medcines if you know what 'trends' are coming up (obesity crisis = diabetes, high blood pressure...etc...so insulin, statins and so on will be in demand).
Again, a very high risk approach.
