Hi all, I just need abit of advice really about benefits and money issues
basically Im currently a 1st year student midwife (coming to the end of my first year) and a married mum of two. My husband was made redundant a year ago January he then bacame depressed and only managed to get another job last October working in a factory just to make ends meet. Well he had a review meeting last night and they have now let him go without warning or notice and because he hasnt been working there a year they said they dont need to give him notice.
so financially i recieve a NHS bursary of £750 PM which is not taxable £103 CTC and £130 ish CB a month, Hubby was bringing in £800 PCM but now we no longer have that and I dont know how we are going to cope. I do get a 25% reducation on CT being a student.
When I first started my course I applied for HB and CTB as at the time he was unemployed but doing a part time HND in computing university course which he completes in a month, Im on a full time university course and we were told initially we were ellidgable, we then recieved a letter stating we wouldnt get anything.
Hubby really wants to find a job and he will do anything but atm is struggling to even get interviews as he is clinically depressed and losing his job has really knocked him back. Im trying to just sort out in my head what i could or couldnt apply for but Ive got exams and assessments coming up and really feel like this extra stress is going to make me fail.
I just wondered really what we should do and were we could go for advice and information.
thank you for listening and Im so sorry if this is in the wrong place x

Your husband needs to apply for JSA, HB and CTB. His entitlement to JSA will depend on him having paid sufficient NI Conts in tax years 09/10 and 10/11.0

Have you applied for the Dependants' Allowance and the Parent's Learning Allowance0

I initially applied for dependants allowance with my bursary and I do recieve the parental earning element.
will have to look at getting him signed up for jobseekers and try at the council again, i might go the cab office aswell just to see if they could help out.
thanks for the replies

Has your husband been to see his gp for his depression? Possibly some medication to help him through his depression would help him at this time & perhaps a referral to the community mental health team for a bit of support would help too.
Is there are branch of MIND near you? Only they are very good at giving help & advice on benefits etc to people with mental health problems as they have experienced advocacy workers, so well worth giving them a call. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
