Is there any sign of the smell outside in the morning when you say at its worst. Any idea if there is a mainhole outside near to your kitchen. You need to isolate options, simple elimination to start, put the plug in the sink tonight and half fill with water and try to cover the overflow on the sink with a piece of cloth. In the morning if the smell is there, then its not the sink waste letting in the smell. Also if you have an outside vent in the kitchen, cover that next and repeat. This will stop any smell coming in. You need to eliminate causes one by one. Try the sink first, I wont send a £140 bill. Gently, gently and hopefully we can all sort this.
Thanks and good idea!! I'll block the kitchen sink tonight (plus overflows) and take it from there!
I'll keep you posted.0 -

Do you know any gas fitters from whom you could borrow a gas leak detector? These can be bought from www.bes.co.uk ref no 11441 or www.screwfix.com ref no 76833. These detect methane gas but not hydrogen sulphide ( rotting eggs). I realise these are a bit pricey but the bes one is excellent at tracking methane gas leaks.0

we live in a Ground floor flat and on certain days get a sewage smell from our bathroom. Have no idea why it happens.
I bleach toilet sink and bath plug hole regulary.
Have never found a solution.
Do take the others advice about checking for gas leaks and carbon monoxide just to be on the safe side.0
