Not 100% sure but is this not why sub-prime cards were introduced along with no credit history.
Many people get sygma(creation cards) with defaults, well they used to unless times have changed.
Personally I don't think people with defaults should be able to get mainstream cards, they should be made to be an example and get useless high interest cards until their default drops off.0 -
Worse than a default, I have a CCJ and got barclaycard gold visa (assume you mean the initial card in your post). As soon as CCJ was over 5 years old I did the pre-app checker on BC website as I wanted to apply for initial and it said 70-80% chance of gold, 80-90% initial.
Had that for 7 months, use and pay off in full every month, limit increased from £1k to £2k. Wanted mastercard so I applied for MBNA football card on Monday and was accepted instantly online. It told me APR would be 16.9% but said limit would be confirmed in email. 0% balance transfer for 12 months, 0% purchases for 3 months and 0% money transfer to current acc for 12 months. CCJ drops off in September so I was shocked to get a super balance transfer offer. I was expecting a higher APR as said could be 20.9% or 24.9% after credit scoring.0 -

Thats a bit draconian. My circumstances have totally changed in the 5 and half years since my CCJ. For the last 3 years or so its been embarrassing checking into a hotel with friends and colleagues for stag do's etc and having to get them to present their credit cards as security as all I had was a Solo or Visa debit despite being on a pretty good wage. The effects of negatives on credit files are meant to dilute over time unfortunately some banks have a blanket ban on CCJs and defaults
I couldnt get Cap1, Vanquis or Aqua as had defaulted on Cap1, Provident and HBOS previously when I earned far less and was more interested in partying0 -

Well thats a bit harsh. People have defaults for all different reasons, not because they just didn't bother paying their billsSave £300 in Jan £515/£300-Lose 10 lbs in Jan- 8/10,Cap One M/C £0/£200,Cap One Visa £0/£200

Yes I agree, but how many people will happily open up the real reasons they defaulted on a public forum, not very many.
So the easy route out of it is the same old cliche you don't know the circumstances tale.0 -
i dont mind telling you the reasons behind mine but its not really relevant to the question.
I have paid everything off from my defaults, and have to wait until december till they all drop off.

It is an awful long time to wait for a default even worse if its only a tiny amount.0 -
Yeah i know, tell me about it. Mine is only for £217.Thats the only one that's left. The others have either fallen off or I have had them removed.

That fact that you have had multiple defaults shows a trend of non-repayment -- regardless of what the circumstance or reason is.
I doubt age is really an excuse to break a credit agreement, so I'm inclined to support the bank's blanket ban on "defaultees".
Skintdad - a decent wage counts for nothing. There are people on 6 figures drowning in the stuff so you can see why the hotel or car hire company wouldn't care about your salary - which I'm also for by the way.0 -
