i understand that 1 search wont make much difference as i have none in the past 12 months, but i fear it will make a difference as i was planning on applying for a loan in the next couple of months.

It still won't make a difference.

I don't think it will make a huge difference, but if you don't have access to an 0800 (have you tried https://www.saynoto0870.com) and you cannot sit on the phone whilst working, then I would write a format complaint to Nat West.
Make sure you follow their formal complaints procedure.
This will not take much of your time and will only costs a stamp and they will have to deal with it.

Personally I don't think a search a few ago (from the time you make your application) will amount to anything at all.
People with 2 a month e.g. 24 a year should start to worry but if you only have 1 it really isn't going to matter, but if you can't sit on the phone whilst doing other things (I can work on a computter or wash or drive hands free) then write the letter, that's really the only way to proceed if you want to follow it up.
