A question of gender..

I'm sure this has been asked and pondered over before, but I was just wondering whether people thought that gender comes in to it when selecting winners?
Now obviously in a world that's all peace and love and fairness, it wouldn't but this is not an ideal world http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/forum_style_1/icons/icon12.gif
For example - I'm a woman and I've just entered a load of comps on the Nuts website, 'Britain's Number One Men's Site'
Have women been winners from nuts before? Or have men won from make-up and handbags from glamour or cosmo?
Just curious - to be clear im not suggesting that these comps are sexist or biased, just an idea that occurred...

Hmmm, that is quite a good question really.
I am female and i have never won anything from loaded, nuts etc, but they do tend to be quite good prizes don't they so alot of people will enter, maybe thats why x:starmod: May all your wishes come true! :starmod:0 -
That's a fairly valid question to make. Personally, I tend to boycott anything related to FHM, Zoo, Nuts etc purely because of their portrayal of women as lustful objects. Depending on the way they 'randomly' select winners, it is entirely possible that that could be the case.
I recently had a similar experience in that I apply for hundreds of competitions a week, and had only ever entered one comp to win an Asian related prize (my name looks like a foreign name), and I won it. Though I hoped this was just an odd coincidence, and did not actually mean that they take people's names into consideration.
As I said before, they should in theory use those random selection generators (unless it's an effort-type comp), which means that any age/gender/race etc has an equal chance of winning!2016 Wishlist:PS4, Holiday, Books!0 -

i have won several items from competitions on websites that are focused more on women.
for example i won a dvd boxset through womens own, some toys from Mumsnet.
I mainly enter these for my girlfreind, and the baby ones for my nieces and nephews.0 -
I know of men who have won on Glamour etc - but no women from nuts etc.
I just put it all down to luck
Thanks to all posters :A0 -
My thoughts would be they are more likely to now and again ensure they had a winner from the opposite sex just so they can not be accused of discrimination.
who's to say i'm not a women who has to shave or good with power tools or maybe i'm a man who enjoys wearing makeup and has long hair.0 -
I won some boxing tickets from either Nuts or Zoo. I think as they are more geared towards males then the prizes are different to what girly magazines offer, my OH was glad of them anyway

That's a really good question. My OH has won female stuff, like face cream, but never vice versa for me.
I wonder if that's the same for ethnic minorities too. For example, if I entered and my mum entered and we have the same surname, if we were both drawn, would they redraw the prize.“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.”

i would suggest if you looked at the list of winners from a men's mag they would mostly if not all be male but that is probably not due to the fact they picked the name because it was male but the fact that 90+% of the enterants were male (im guessing the readership of the mags is in the high 90% male) therefore drawing a random entry out of a hat would be 90% more likely to be male the opposite can be said for female geared comps this is of course me hoping all comps are fairly and properly picked at random2012 wins- FB Clean Campaign eyebrow kit, Heinz ketchup Indian Spices, 4x rocky road squares, magners eye-pads, £500 from pepsi, 3x green&black cooking choc bars
