Very confused about wireless

What type of Virgin broadband is it: cable or BT phone line?
What's the make and model of modem that was supplied? If it connects via USB you won't be able to connect it to a router, because these normally use Ethernet connections.0 -
you need a cable wireless router. This plugs into the modem with a ethernet lead.
Ypu then need a wireless receiver easier in usb format. Plug this into Pc then run the disc that comes with it. once this is done , run the disc that came with the wireless router,
You must however unplug the modem from the ekectric then plug it back in to reset its pairing to the wireless router

an alternative to a wireless router would be a pair of homeplugs, workreally well as we found out when we needed internet access on the ground floor and modemis in the attic! Wireless routers just couln't cope!

I bought the solwise 14mbps easy to install and use.
advantage of no security worries from a wireless network as well if you aren't sure about them. and you can move them from room to room if you decide to move your pc.Weight loss since 01/08/07 - 72 lbs:j0 -
Install the router and adapter on the PC, then move the router into the room with the cable modem and attach it, and bobsyeruncle.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Start by setting up the USB adapter on our pc. Should be a case of inserting the CD & following the prompts, only attaching the adapter when you're told to.
Next, run the cable from the modem to the 'wan' socket on the router. Switch on the modem, if it isn't already on, wait for the lights to settle, then turn on the router.
Back at the PC, see if you get a notification that a wireless network is available - hopefully named 'D-Link' or similar. Choose to 'view wireless networks', choose the D-Link option & click on 'connect'. This should get you connected to the internet, but without any security!
If you get this far, you now need to get the instructions out & access the router's settings - open your internet browser &, in the address bar type '192,168,0,1' (without the 's). When asked for a login type 'admin' for the username & leave the password blank. This is where you need to set up your security so post back if you get this far.0 -
