Whats the best thing about being unemployed to you?

  • Best thing is not having to sit in that office with some of the most serial backstabbers a person could ever encounter. We had students and trainees commenting on how bad it was.
One day there will be a fight there and someone will get injured, people can only take so much.
Not having to put up with this has been a gift from God! Ideally I would like a job where I am either self employed or not having to sit in an office all day.

    1. Taking my iPad/laptop to a coffee shop and working (job searching) from there, no stressed out colleagues around or the need to account for your actions.
    2. Going for a run during the day when the kids are at school (kids always seem to mock runners around here and shout "knees up, knees up" haha)
    3. Spending time with my elderly cat, he's quite clingy and loves company - so he'll really miss me when I get a job!

They call it office politics, but its not confined to an office, anywhere there are people working it could turn out like this, its totally hateful.

LOL at all the comments about office politics! That is the at the top of my list of things I despise with a passion about any job I've ever had. I've been temping this past seven or so years and have worked in private companies, public sector colleges, in the NHS, local councils and a supermarket, and the same pattern of human behaviour has emerged in every single one! It's not just me or just wherever I go as evidenced by the experiences of other people on this thread. It's normal!! I've also realised over the years that if you don't participate in the savagery then you will become its victim, ie the hot topic for the b*tches to get stuck into. LOL, I am looking for a job working with more animals than humans!!

The other thing I really enjoy is the peace and quiet at home during the day. By that I mean the neighbours and the neighbours' children are largely absent all day long. I like my peace and quiet, it's absolute bliss having it five days a week.

Waking up to the sun pushing through the curtains.... and knowing that you can actuallyy get to sit in the sun that day, instead of missing it all by being trapped in an office until the sun's going down and it's gone cold again.

You don't HAVE to sit in the sun ... just knowing you could is enough.

We'd like to think there's nothing but I believe there has to be some positives from being unemployed, For me its all about getting away from the politics, that really did do my head in day in day out, for some work wasn't about working, the main focus was playing the politics game and work second, not all companies are like this, my last job was the only I can recall like this but if you end up in a firm that rewards back stabbing and yes men it really can be miserable. So I am glad to be free from this.

What's the best thing to you?
There is seriously nothing good about having no job, no money and no life and I can't believe anyone would think there was anything good about it.

Well actually I have thought for a long time that if we could manage to live with little or no paid employment then we would have cracked it. Some people seem to get by quite happily without working, but as I have said before after 43 years it's hard to break out of the wage trap.
