How long to wait?

Hi there was wondering if anyone could help?
I applied for housing benefit well over 3 weeks ago, I submitted my completed form in person to my local council offices, along with all relevant documents - my tenancy agreement, wage slips, driving license, child care provider - the lot and have heard nothing.
Around the same time, I also advised Tax credits that I am now using a breakfast club for my 2 DD's on average spending £84 a month, I was told I would get £16 per week to cover this. But my WTC payments have not changed.
Money is so tight at the moment, and I am beginning to struggle. My question is how long do these processes take, I read somewhere that HB would be dealt with the Monday after it has been submitted, but I am still waiting?
Should I call them or is this standard? I'm sorry but have never been in this situation before so do not know what to expect.
Thank you for any comments.

LHA, if you are eligible, will be paid from the Monday following receipt of your claim.
My sisters claim took 12 weeks, but did include Xmas and New Year, and I believe that was an unusually long time.0 -
Thank you both, I may well give them a call tomorrow to see how far along my claim is.0
