Bought Something, Lost The Receipt and Now Its Faulty

I bought a mobile phone from Argos about 3 weeks ago, paid cash.
It's now gone faulty, which if you Google is a well known problem.
Unfortunately I am in the middle of moving house and have some how packed away/lost the receipt.
Am I basically stuck with having to buy myself a brand new phone or is there anything I can do to get it refunded/replaced?
Thanks

Did you by any chance have to register any details instore when you purchased the phone?
I ask because a relative has just got her TV replaced by Argos despite no receipt and a cash payment because the TV licensing info could be traced for the purchase.0 -
Nope

Good thinking though - thank you!0 -
How did you pay? Was the phone the only item you bought?
You don't NEED a receipt - all you need is proof of purchase. This can be a bank or credit card statement (if paid by debit or credit card).0 -
They paid via cash.
You could always go in and see what they say.
I wonder if the phone could be traced back to argos via the IMEI number?
If you are fairly sure you've packed the receipt, then consider buying one of these £10 cheapy phone to tide you over a couple weeks till you've moved, and unpacked. Then you can head back to argos when you have it (under 6 months at least) and keep the other one as a spare just in case, throw in the drawer phone.0
