Hi all,

I have a little T reg Toyota Vitz, exactly the same as a Yaris. I am currently with Swinton and my renewal is due next month. I paid £375 TPFT last year, no convictions or points with 12 years NCB. Seems alot for my 998cc go kart !!!

Can anyone recommend any insurance companies that might be worth getting a quote from for this car.

Thanks for any help. Si

Have you tried the online comparison sites?

Yes I have. However none that I have used recognise the model of my car as it is an import. If I put in Yaris it is a good £150ish cheaper than what I paid last yeat with Swintons Import Dept.

I am so tempted just to say its a Yaris but I know that could come back to haunt me should I make a claim and they say "its not a Yaris its a Vitz". I dont think its worth the risk.

    Cheers though. Si

ive never heard of one so if swinton will take you on again i would stick with them
if you lie to another company then theres no point insuring it is there

I'd have a look for japanese car forums/clubs and see who they use (or who advertise on those sites), although these tend to be for more performance cars you should be able to draw a short list of import friendly companies you can phone up for a quote.

Try A-Plan or Sky Insurance, both specialise in imports and/or modified cars. I've got my imported Hilux and Modified MR2 with A-Plan at the moment.

Other comapies you could try are Adrian Flux, Footman James or Houghtons.

This is the correct and helpful answer. The comparison sites won't be any help with a non-mainstream car I'm afraid.

I've used Sky, Flux and A-Plan in the past and all have been fine. They do all have their own specialisms though so worth ringing them all. It'll take some time on the phone but could save a fair bit.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Chris Knott are also worth a try. I had my Cefiro with them last year. Switched to Flux this year as they were 30 quid cheaper but in hindsight, Flux are a gigantic PITA to deal with and Chris Knott were competent and helpful, I think I would rather have just spent the extra 30 quid given the amount of faffing I had dealing with Flux.
