Nikon Coolpix S4300

I have just treated myself (finally!) to a new camera. When I purchased it they sold me a Sandisk Ultra card and told me it would hold over 1000 pictures. I have just noticed that Argos have a better deal on a Sandisc Extreme card. What is the difference? Thanks

what sizes are the respective cards? (and class)

As and add on edit. Sandisk do 4 types of cards.

    Normal Card (dark blue)
Ultra (Black card, with red top strip with Ultra written on it)
Extreme (Black card, with red top strip with Extreme written on it)
Extreme Pro (Black card, with red top strip with Extreme Pro written on it)

Basically 1-4 in price. 1 has a total limit, as in X GB per card, it's topped out I believe.
2 is faster than 1, and can be bigger in card, 3 is faster than 2 and 1, and then 4 is the fastest of them all. The creme de la creme for high end upper most cameras that generally cost la creme de la creme prices (aka mortgage the house typed things :D)

The ultra card will be fine for your needs, as would the extreme. When it comes to the newer cards, I'd recommend going as best you can, for the right price. So if they're both the same size, I'd have said go for Extreme if it was same price, or cheaper

    Double post, love em!

Basically looking up your camera, it has "approved memory cards" which in easy terms means these will work in it, but doesn't mean any others from the list will not work in it.

    you camera will take upto
..................SD memory card ...... SDHC memory card ...... SDXC memory card3
....................old cards, blue............... blue, usual cards ...... always black cards.
    SanDisk ...... 2 GB ............ 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB ...... 64 GB

But also recommends a minimum class of "6" (number in the circle on the card)

Thanks for that. SOrry, should have said both cards are 8GB. The Ultra is class 6 and the extreme class 10

I would've gone for the faster card if it were the same price as the Ultra card. Did you get the card with the camera as a deal (I know argos are doing 1/3 off certain memory cards when you buy with a camera atm)

If you are using the camera a lot, or are intending on taking LOTS of pictures, then a secondary card might not be such bad idea, especially if your camera has HD recording, and you plan on using it.
    BUT
Just because a camera can take a card that will hold 1000 pictures (and more!) doesn't mean you should be using it to hold that many pictures, unless you're on a two week holiday where you take a lot of pictures and can't download them often.

IMO it's not a back up device. I take pictures off completely every time I use the camera. I don't leave them on till my card is full and then remove them. Back up pictures to two different places, cloud is good now, and maybe a flash drive or something.

You only need to have a camera stolen or broken to lose a years+ worth of important pictures.
