    Thanks for all the responses-it really is very much appreciated.

    I think think you're right Pipkin-I think we we had the French Lavander which could explain why they didn't last.

    I'm going to give it another whirl with Hidcote and gravel which will tie in quite nicely as we had lavander as our centre pieces and for table names at our wedding, and on one we had Hidcote!

    No idea which lavender I've but every winter they look dead and I should be cutting them back but every spring they grow again so they now ATM look stupid as thy need a serious hair cut ;-p :rotfl:
