Halifax Reward Account application declined

Hello,

I applied for a Halifax Rewards Account online a week ago and was sent the welcome pack along with the debit card and Internet banking details. When I tried to login to view my account, it said that there were no available accounts to view. So, I called them up yesterday and they said that there was a note on their system advising me to go to any branch with my ID and address proof. I went to the branch yesterday and provided the documents and was advised that it may take some days as the copies of my documents would need to go through their internal post. Today I got a letter dated from last week saying that my account couldn't be opened as it failed their final checks! They wouldn't reveal any further details when I called them up. Has this happened to anyone lately? I already have a credit card account with them. Can I go to a Halifax branch now and try to open an account? Can it be opened immediately?

That is odd opening the account, they would have checked with Experian and possibly Call Credit for their money laundering checks (did with me) so they have verified your ID ok?

Just wondering if it was some fraud check they did afterwards?
Have you checked your Experian file the CIFA'S entry?

I really would investigate this as it seems odd to actually get the account all opened.
They have software called KYC or know your customer.
This also reminds me of lots of posts about NatWest's system you can get an account and then it goes to another dept their AVU and can then get declined!
  • This happened to me in January - got all the stuff, couldn't seem to get the online banking to work, I rang them up, they told me the account had been closed, letter to follow. I'd 'failed' somehow, but of course they couldn't tell me how. I used to have Halifax current accounts in the past. I had Lloyds vantage accounts at the time I made this application, thought that might be something to do with it. Since closed the Lloyds accounts in case my failings spread to them(!)

Thanks for the useful suggestions. I've checked my credit files from all the three agencies and there are no CIFAS markers on them. The only things in my credit files that could have affected the application are a number of credit searches (7-10) done in January this year and consequently a fair number of new credit accounts being opened during that time as well. I also have a Lloyds bank account which has not been used for a couple of years now, so that might be a factor as well.

They are now actually the one company so it's even more odd that you were refused.

Sadly the account doesn't exist at all in BOS these days.

Wondering if this is their ''appeals dept'' They should explain more the reason it was opened then closed.
Please post back if you get to know why they made the decision to close it.
