Best advice is to try a lower powered bike. A lower powered bike is probably a lot less likely to hit a person so hard as to cause the serious costly damage so will probably be cheaper.

Regarding the fronting, that's like saying with the price of petrol going up the government and petrol companies are just trying to tempt people into driving off without paying and that it is justifiable, an equally invalid argument.

What makes you think it is a "scam" and that the rates are ridiculous. If all available insurers will only quote at this level it sounds like it is a fair premium.

It is a "sports" bike, so yes it is the "wrong" type of bike.

It's a good 250cc bike and as for the sex difference in quotes that's just more BS from insurance.

And on what basis do you say that? Why would insurers underprice female customers compared to male customers?

What basis is used to justify it apart from insurance companies word.

Sorry, that is something of a non sequitir. You claimed price difference was unfounded (not unfair). I can understand an argument on fairness (as per the changing regulations) but the reason the prices will be different is based on the fact that insurers will have seen that males on average cost less than females in claims costs when all other factors are held level.

The reasoning for differential pricing will be based on statistical experience of the insurer. As I said before, there wouldn't be any benefit to an insurer underpricing females (compared to males).

So yes I do not like the fact that I have to pay nearly £2000 more than someone in the same circumstances but a different gender.
I thought you said she was £400 and you were £1100. The difference is only £700 and even then part of that difference is that she is 2 years older.

How can insurance companies get away with this, I understand that with cars there is the risk of hitting another car and it costing the insurance companies a lot of money and thats why sometimes the insurance is more than the value of the car.... however with a bike if there is any damage 90% of that will be to the bike.

Sorry but this is absolute nonsense. A real problem in bike insurance is personal injury claims from pillion passengers - these can easily run into hundreds of thousands of pounds, which makes the damage to your bike a bit small fry, really, doesn't it?

Not to mention the fact that as a new rider you'll probably bin that model of bike even without a pillion.

I was going to put what raskazz said, A lot of bike accidents can have very large claims for personal injury.

Probably young and foolish in the insurance companies eyes. So they charge accordingly. Buy a 125 commuter bike and build up some no claims.
