Just called tax credits to give my New estimate. when asking much i should receive etc the guy kept basicallysaying it won't make a difference to my award as they go by lower income of 5000 for last year so what is point of my estimate???

    What estimate did you give?

I explained that above. If you give an estimate of £15,000 or less, they will use £5000 (your previous year income).

If you give a higher estimate, they will disregard the first 10,000 of the rise. So if you estimate 24,000 they would use 14,000 so it would impact on your award now.

The reason you give estimates, even if it doesn't change your claim now is to stop an overpayment occurring from next April.

if you quoted 24,000, it will change your award if your income for last year was only 5000.

Yeh i think so but he didn't but ill wait for award letter n hopefully that makes more sense. think he may have been new to the job. was just worried as don't want an overpayment
  • Just looking online at official explanation and came across this

    b) If CYI is greater than PYI by more than the specified income disregard, the final award is based on CYI less the income disregard, and an overpayment may arise

i understand the disregard just the bit saying an overpayment may arise?
