Advent Modena - hard drive?

Anyone taken apart an Advent modena recently?
PC world don't do service manuals and I'm needing to take out the hard drive.
Seems the entire back has to come off?
Or is it under keyboard?

Who on earth still buys Advent?
PC World's attempt at an Apple Empire by trying to tie up the servicing..

Worth reporting back that I joined the very useful Advent forum. I have now removed the entire base of the laptop to get at the hard drive.

I now find the hard drive seems to partly secured on the keyboard side. ((out loud scream) - I'll leave it for the day.

I honestly have never seen more poorly designed laptop. It's a joke.
It is truly atrocious. It'll be the last Advent Modena I ever look at.

Imagine "the tech guys" having to deal with this rubbish every day..

Welcome to the world of laptop repair :)

I'm not that familiar with the Advent model you have but as you have the base of the laptop off the keyboard must be being held in by either two small screws which can be revealed by prising off the plastic trim that runs along the top of the keyboard. However, if the top case is a complete moulded part then the keyboard will be held in by small spring clips along its top and possibly at the sides too.

Being a budget model the plastic will be quite flimsy so be careful when trying to pry bits of it open. If you do break/damage anything at least you should find plenty of spares on Ebay.

Modenas are truly horrendous to work on...I did a brother and sister's screens for them within a month or so of each other (they were only 15 months old !!!!) - you couldn't remove the screen bezel WITHOUT at least one of the retaining clips breaking off, they are that flimsy  Certainly not designed to be repaired easily...and repair manuals are scarce for all of them :(

No, to put it simply I can't.....probably why they are more inclined to tell you it's BER and go buy another one ;)

    And finally.
I have now managed to expedite the hard drive.
It wasn't screws that were fixing it.
It was DOUBLE SIDED SCOTCH TAPE on the underside.

Can only think of three reasons for this.
    1. shamefully inept design
    2. ridiculously flimsy build and components

    ...and the third...
    3. By having to use real physical pressure to prise away the drive, you are inevitably going to leave cosmetic damage to the drive. It's going to invalidate any warranty.

I've seen this with Time and Tiny before they went belly up. They started to glue components down too...

Even more nuts is that the tape is stuck directly to the hard drive's circuitboard. !

Oh and funny enough the hard drive is bucked.
