iPod - new computer/downloads question - help!

My son has an iPod nano. Last year we downloaded some tunes from Amazon (and also iTunes). Since then, my pc died (very old), and we have replaced it with an iMac.

Just have a couple of questions.... When I plug his nano in, it seems to suggest that he will lose all of his music when I re-sync it. My previous iTunes purchases have remained in iTunes so I know we still have those, but does that mean we will lose the Amazon tunes he downloaded? And I am assuming that we will have to import all of his cd's again as well?? Is there any way around this? (I can remember it taking many hours last time).

Backing up.... I backed up our photos onto usb memory stick things before the pc died, but didn't think about the music! I now have an external hard drive, so hopefully will not have another problem like this again. But if anyone has any solutions on how I could sync his iPod without losing his tunes, I would be very grateful.

    Hi

You need to set up the ipod to manually manage music - depends what version of itunes you have, but i think you click on the device in the left hand column, then click on the music tab and untick Sync music.

You will then have to manually drag new music to the ipod, but it won't delete anything
