For yourself
SMP - Statutory Maternity Pay.
For the child
CB - Child Benefit
CTC - Child Tax Credit:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Sure Start Maternity grant!!!
One off £500 lump sum available for your first child only.
You will need to wait until your Tax Credits claim comes through as you need to show you get the higher rate.
We got it for our first two (before ConDemns changed it), but wont be able to get it for number 3 in Sept :-(Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -

Couldn't tell you about income support myself: but depending how long you have been employed you could get Statutory Maternity Pay, or Maternity Allowance. SMP if you have been with the same employer for long enough, MA if you have changed employers, but still been in employment for a certain period. Look on direct.gov and it'll give you all the info you need, as well as when to apply and the forms you'll need.
The info for the Sure Start Grant is on there somewhere too.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
You should be able to get masses of baby stuff for free from places like Gumtree freebies, Freecycle, Freegle or similar.
The child maintenance paid by the father will not impact your benefits. It is paid on top of, not instead of.
I believe lone parents can get Income Support but I don't believe that you would get this while working.
You can identify your entitlements on the Turn2us online benefit calculator. This should be child tax credits, working tax credits (as long as you are working 16 hours per week) and child benefit.0 -
Have a look into if you qualify for the healthy start food/milk vouchers as well.
