Faulty item guarantee query

I bought a £55 CTEK battery charger in Novermber 2010 and it has broken. It was bought online from a company which now sells through Ebay;s marketplace.
I contacted CTEK who informed me that although the product is under guarantee, I have to send it back to the retailer who should then go through the process of filing a complaints form etc.
I have been unable to contact the retailer but I would have thought that because the product is over a year old, I should be able to send it back directly to the manufacturer.
I should be grateful if you could please give me some advice as to how I should proceed.
Thanks very much.
Sally

As it's a manufacturers warranty that you will be claiming from and as manufacturers are under no legal obligation to provide such a warranty, they are entitled state terms and conditions as to how you must claim.
If you can't get hold of the retailer, then a polite letter to CTEK explaining that you realise that you should be contacting the retailer, but you've tried this and had no response, so would they consider allowing you to deal directly with them, might work.0 -
You have no rights with the manufacturer, it's all down to the retailer.0
