Has anyone done GfK's webchat assignments? I can't get through the test, despite being pretty sure I've got the answers right.

I've had a great first proper month shopping. I was able to get a few jobs at the airport waiting for my flight and the fees were good on those.

I have a question about the tax situation though. I have registered as self-employed and filed my NI exemption. I'm keeping solid records of all my miles and fees etc. I don't know how reimbursements are treated though. Are they taxable or not? Some things such as supermarket jobs involve buying things I want and will use and I guess I would treat the reimbursement as if it was a fee when deciding whether to do these jobs. Other jobs mean I have to buy DIY equipment or something that I totally do NOT want, it is also commonly specified that the items are not to be returned. Is a reimbursement taxable or not?

Oooh it depends which !!!!!! (sorry I mean allocator) is dealing with those visits. I once did an electrical visit and the store was shut, I got the full fee and the reimbursement even though I didn't buy a thing. I then did a games shop which was shut down and I only got half the reimbursement ( no fee as this was a purchase visit. I argued back and forth but she was having none of it). And finally, I did a station shop which was shut down and I only got the fee, no reimbursement this time.

Good luck. Hope you manage to get at least something.
  • Ah thank you guys, I took a couple of photos of the store and the message in the window ready for the ruckus if they do start trying to palm me off lol but hopefully all will be ok :)

This gets discussed a lot here. Have a read back through the thread.

Opinions differ, but, it seems the most common opinion is: sometimes.
Groceries, meals without fee, jobs where reimbursement is larger than the fee, all taxable.
    Minor reimbursements: not taxable.
