  • Just a quick note to say that Thank God we have been sucessful in the appeal for first and second preference schools. Many thanks for your posts.:T

I cited quotes of some bullying and some racist incidents in the respective Ofsted reports of offerred schools and local media. I cited the profile of preferred school as opposed to the profile of offerred schools. I got statistics from local authority statistics department on student number at preferred school over the last 3 years and achievement levels. This showed that achievement has increased even though there were many more stdents at school. I also made a case of profile of students and that a balanced and diverse school will be better for the girls integration.

I think on balance these points did help make the case, but the decision was based on the personal circumstances of the girls, having lost their mother recently and having come to the uk as a result and that the first and second preference schools were much closer than the ones offerred..

So good luck to everyone else. I got ben rooneys book after submitting appeal. the exmaples are helpful but it may be more useful to look at his 2007 edition.

Thanks for everyone who helped in the process...

    Take care
  • excellent news, pleased for you :) I am seriously stressing over the wait to find out which secondary my son has. Its going soooo slow! 3rd March might as well be 3rd of never!

Congratulation Olivers all you hard work has completely paid off in giving them the best school.

Potnoodle - I know what you mean ... I have to wait until April and it seems like a long long long way off. I keep on dreaming about getting the letter stating that my son has our choosen school. I try to forget all about it but it is hard.

  • Ok first of all I have been a little naughty.

My Wife and I live in an area which has three local school which all have poor reputations and high levels of bullying.
The bullying i of particular concern to me as my Daughter was 3 month premature and as such is in 18 month clothes, even though she is three.
Oh and she is mixed race!
My In-laws who live 1 mile away are in the cachement area for the primary school I went to as a youngster, wich has a glowing reputation.
Hence our decision to state that we lived there instead of where we do, in order to get my Daughter a better education.

Unfortunately we have not got supporting documents together in time (as bank statements still went to the old address even once it was changed).
They have said that its highly unlikely that we will get a place.

I really don't know what to do, we would rather home school than send her elsewhere.

  • Happy Sad, dont even go there, i havent slept properly for ages and keep reading the supporting notes I handed in to see if they sound compelling enough! (going for an exceptional need category).

Geordiepaul, dont feel guilty, it is the governments fault for making us jump through the hoops. i have a child in my class who i know for a fact didnt live where they said they did. its not fair that those that can buy right buy the school get a place, those that cant afford it dont.

many of the peeps who go to church only go to get their kid into faith school.

    bummer about the evidence :(

If your daughter gets the school you don't want you can still go ahead with the proof of your new address (at your family's place) then go on the waiting list under that new address. Our authority allow you to late apply if you are just about to move into a new area during the selection process... read the admissions document to see if this applies to you.

  • Hello All, Like some of you I too am waiting for 3rd March, I have just read the newsletter for the first choice school (elder son there in yr13) and the first pararaph says they are fully subscribed for this sept's yr 7. I am worried as my son was 2 marks short of selective in the 11+ so we had the wait for the appeal which deemed him 'selective'. So no doubt we will have to go through another appeal process. I have ordered Rooney's book in anticipation!!

Which address would the admissions team take into account if the child resides with both parents but the split is amicable therefor no court statement regarding custody is joint is it up to the parents or do the admissions team decide if it could make a difference to the allocation of a place
  • hoochi, you need to get yourself a copy of Ben Rooney's book. I remember it covers a case like that, but I can't remember the answer.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in. :D
