School appeals - help offered

Hi
I saw your offer of help on a school appeal forum I have an appeal on Thursday is there any help you could please provide?0 -
His SEND was only recently and so wasnt added as didnt realise it was relevant. My mistake i guess. There was nothing on the form to say this was relevant to the application. Only children in care on the LA are 1st on the list. No reference for SEN or LSA.
SEND only impacts on priority if the child has an EHCP.0 -

We need to know what your grounds of appeal are.
Is she on the waiting list for a year 8 place? Where on the waiting list are you? there may be children moving over the summer, and that will always be simpler than an appeal.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I work for an local authority in the school admissions team and have many years experience of school appeals (both admissions and exclusions) so if anyone has any questions I would be happy to help.
The school she chose have refused my niece because she has ADHD and claim they won’t be able to support her, which is fair enough but the local council have told my sister she needs to send her daughter to another school in her area. The issue here is that my sister knows her daughter will get bullied there as some of the girls bullied her when she was in junior school.
The local council have now referred my sister to the truancy board due to the fact my niece hasn’t attended school since July, but how can she send her to a school where she is unsafe?
When my sister chases the council up, she is fobbed off constantly and is now at the end of her tether. Any advice?
Many thanks Sharon0 -
Hi, my sister is having real issues getting her daughter back into school.

She should be appealing to the school she wants. She needs to talk to the school first to see if they have provision to support her needs.
The timeline seems odd. Did she get allocated the school with the potential bullying issue and do nothing? What has happened since September? Is she home educating or at a private school? Truancy implies that she is expected in school and not attending. It seems odd that the school have registered her, surely Mum would have declined the place?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. How can she be sure she will be bullied jess she goes ans see what happens. The girls might have no interest in her any longer, or might have grown up.
Yo Yr sister is right to be concerned but wrong to deny her daughter an education because of the what could be. It comes across as her holding her daughter hostage to push the council to go along with what she wants hence them rising to the next stage.0 -
ShazzaC, HayleyG offered her help in2007 and after a short while wasn't heard from again. I'm sure others will be able to help but for the future, it's usually much better if you can start your own thread.0

I disagree. It seems reasonable to have all queries on school places on one thread. It also means that people can read through and see advice given to others in a similar situation.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
