Electricity calculator

Hi there we recently moved and had a new metre installed that says single phase killowatt hour metre.

I could do with a calculator to work out the cost for BG electricity (not sure of current rate with the price fluctuations ect).

We have used 500 units in 28 days.

We have just paid all the bills in the past but the last readings from our old house where shockers - so now intend to be more vigilant.

a single phase killowatt hour meter is a normal meter.

Nobody can tell you the cost without knowing where you live as the prices vary across the country quite a bit.

Assuming you are on BG Standard tarff, you will pay the first 225 units(kWh) a quarter at the higher Tier 1 price which varies from 17.04p/kWh to 22.77p/kWh and the rest at tier2 which varies from 9.96p to 11.78.

Taking an average price you were* in line to pay approx £180 a quarter, £60 a month if your consumption stays the same.

*However these prices will drop on 12 March.

That seems fairly reasonable and you have helped to take away a little of the worry - the last bill was a build up from estimated readings and I think we can cope with £60 a month but will start to turn gadgets from standby ect to try and get it lower.

I have been a Mse member for some time but never really thought to much about power consumption until now.

Its on my list of things to watch from now on . Thanks again (I hit the button).
