Black hole changing ISP's

Been with AOL for 7-8 years - no major snags really and indeed each of my 5-6 calls over that time has been solved instantly. BUT village now has the new bt supersonic speed bband and I'm thinking of going to bt.
I have heard of horrendous gaps between signing off from 1 ISP onto another (2 weeks in one case)
bt assure me that once I have the MAC number from AOL then there engineer will arrive and do all the work and their will be NO gap at all. Off AOL and on bt.

Yes / No / comments would be helpful - thanks

If you are on a standard BT Wholesale offering with "AOL" then the MAC route should be painless BUT AOL have been absorbed by TalkTalk who have a tendency to put you on their LLU network if its available at your exchange. This can make the transfer more problematic.Check at http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search
to find out whether TalkTalk have unbundled your exchange.
Also might be worth finding out who else can offer fibre connection eg Plusnet because BT's customer service is legendary (bad that is!!)

Plusnet are the obvious alternative to BT for an FTTC service, cheaper and better CS, and exactly the same physical service.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • BT are a bunch of crooks, i wouldnt touch them with a bargepole.

    Plusnet are owned by BT!

I have just mentioned in another post smaller ISP's like TitanADSL and ADSL24 offer better levels of support and network stability.

Owned by, but (thankfully) still run independently. They have the same relationship to BT Wholesale as any other ISP.

The majority of your posts since you joined MSE in 2007 have extolled the virtues of Titan.

You must be a very happy customer or something :D
