Outer pane of glass smashed- double glazing

While mowing the lawn a stone flew and hit the glass door leaving a hole and the entire pane has shattered but is still intact (If you know what I mean)

This was at about 6pm and despite calls to the housing association nobody has called back (obviously no out of hours service) so have taped cardboard round it to cover the door.

Will call them tomorrow but nobody will be in from 10am-2pm ish due to hospital appointments. The inner pane is still intact is the security of the home compromised?

I assume if someone wanted to smash the glass they would anyway and the house is in a quiet corner of a village so nobody would see it by just passing.

Only if a burglar wants to smash the inner pane and raise the suspicions of the neighbouhood.

I suppose if they wanted to do that they would smash both anyway.

Always thought double glazing was supposed to be safer/stronger x

It may well be, but people still (as strange as it may seem) live in houses with single glazed windows and I'm not aware that a)insurers reduce premiums if you have DG and b) Crime Prevention Officers see DG as enhancing security unlike good locks, security lighting and a resident German Shepherd.

You will find that burglars rarely break large windows as it makes too much noise and tend not to climb through broken glass as it increases the likelyhood of them cutting themselves on it and leaving their DNA.

I think you may be erring towards paranoia.

Window glass is hardly a security feature, whether single or double glazed. Both can be easily smashed. As phill says, paranoia seems to be creeping in.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
