Help Made mistake with overseas postage

A German bidder has won my item. I put postage for item as £15 as it is heavy. Just went onto Royal Mail calculator and it would cost me over £30 to send item. Only sold item for £15. What can I do? Should I refund the buyer and explain why I can't send it? I have 100% positive feedback. Will he negative me? Advice would be appreciated:(

well, you should have thought about that before. i'm afraid if you want to keep your positive feedback up, you should send the item to the successful bidder. sometimes you'll just have to accept that you've made a loss, and let's be honest, we're not talking thousands here, but 30 quid, so get a grip.
  • Afraid so- you've just got to suck it up and send it.

(We've all done it, so please don't think you're the first!)

  • And considering that the item sold for £15 plus your £15 for postage you're (taking off the ebay and Paypal fees) only a little bit out of pocket. I sent something to Australia the other month. I charged £6 international as it was a light item; once it sold to Oz I decided to go the extra mile on packaging and accidentally made it so heavy it cost £10  Hey ho- we live and learn :)

Thanks Building With Lego for your positive advice. I don't normally send abroad but the guy really wanted the item. Will take the hit. Edinburgh2011 you could have been a bit nicer. We are all in this together!

Have you had a look at couriers in case it's cheaper?
What are the dimensions & weight?

Linda, most of us have made similar mistakes at some point - there's even another current thread with an almost identical situation.

Bottom line is that for the sake of a one-off sale and the loss of a few quid, it's not worth risking a negative and poor DSRs, which will linger to drag your averages down for a year.

have you tried contacting the buyer and explaining your mistake.

they might be perfectly reasonable if you tell them as we all make mistakes

there is a program called gyazu which can take a screenprint and then uploads it with a link showing the screenshot.

you could use this on the royalmail site to show you arent trying it on.

worst case they might want their moneyback but dont pay the extra postage yourself as you have then sold the item for nothing.

sold some records on discogs to a guy in australia and he didnt believe the postage costs

sent him a screenprint using gyazu and he was totally fine with the cost.
