Comet Damage Allowance

Received a new washing machine from Comet the other day, and after plumbing it in, I noticed it had a dent in the front. Machine still operates ok otherwise. I emailed comet and they replied saying that they could offer me a 'damage allowance' of £40 to keep the machine.
Has anyone experienced this before? Is this a negotiable figure maybe? Providing the damage is purely cosmetic, then i reckon I could be persuaded to keep the machine, not sure how far to push them tho...

How much did you pay for the machine?
You could of course ask for a better figure, the worst they could can do is say no. Well... they could withdraw the offer all together, but unlikely as it would mean having to pay to collect it.0 -
£265. I'd imagine a dented machine is pretty worthless to them.
I was surprised to be offered that, i thought theyd just replace it.0 -
£40 off a £265 machine is a pretty fair offer, I'd say. Maybe see if they'll go to £50, but that's almost 20%!
The manufacturer won't issue any authorisation for them to return the machine, so offering you an allowance - assuming it's still working fine - is a lot cheaper than writing off a whole washing machine, so you may be able to go a bit higher.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
£40 is reasonable, I'd keep it.0
