When using internet banking what time is classed as close of business?

Natwest/RBS deem close of business as being 6.00pm or 6.30pm cant remember which now. However Santanders definition of close of business may differ.

I thought it was close of business on the following working day

Depends on the bank, but I'd expect something like 3:30pm or thereabouts. Ie, the time after which credits and debits are processed the following working day.

Yeah that what I meant your to fast for me to make my edit :D

Glad your money turned up within 3 hours - - that is still a heck of a lot better than only a couple of years ago, when we had to wait 3 or 4 working days! And better than my £1K from Santander to First Direct, which was sent at 14:37 today and hasn't shown up the other end yet.

My eyes caught this comment from you:

The annoying thing is if these banks didn't keep dropping their interest rates to 0.5% then I could leave my money where it is.

Am a bit buffled why you transfer from Santander to RBS for interest rates - - I thought Santander had pretty good rates, but seems you found better ones with RBS? Let us know please, I'd have loads to get out of Santander if there was a better place!

No sorry I haven't found any great rates at RBS the £10k was merely passing through my main account en route to Virgin/Nrock. I want to keep some on easy access & I have overstayed my welcome at Santander.

I need to make some effort to find better rates but we are just about to go on holiday & I am not prepared to leave the cash sitting in a Santander account which is now paying 0.5%.
