What I am interested in though is why are you spending more on invites?! I wouldn't spend a fortune on invites (We used vistaprint and everyone thought they were great), as I'm not the kind to keep them! Once the event is over they go in the bin - sorry. I will be keeping a copy of ours, and the menu, which was also matching from vistaprint!

Well, my Save The Dates haven't arrived from Vistaprint yet so I might change my mind when I see them but...at the risk of offending people who have used Vistaprint....all the designs on there look (to me) a bit...I don't know...cheap I suppose :( and I want invitations that are on thicker/padded sort of paper with ribbons on and stuff, a bitmore texture rather than just a flat page which I assume Vistaprint invites are...you know what I mean...sorry, hope I haven't offended anyone! Who knows I may end up getting cheap ones off Vistaprint and putting the money saved behind the bar, I have no doubt people would prefer that to a fancy invitation that they are only going to throw away! I know I'm silly... :(

Don't apologise for what you want!

We wanted something without ribbons and bows, something which looked pared down and sophisticated.

I would really stop worrying too much about what other people may think and do what ever makes you happy! If that is stationary with all the trimmings go for it!

    Thanks :)

I admit I haven't shopped around but there is a little shop in my town (which seems to be wedding central, it is the tiniest town ever without even a supermarket or any high street shops yet it has 3 wedding dress shops, 2 wedding florists and a wedding stationery shop!) that does wedding stationery and looking in there for the whole whack i.e. STDs, invitations, orders of ceremony, place cards etc would have come to some absolutely ridiculous price like over 600 or something. The most plain and simple ivory invitation with a coloured ribbon was over three pounds! It's hard to justify that when Vistaprint is sitting there....I'm trying to convince myself that it doesn't really matter!

£600?? Good lord. I will stick you ribbons and bows on for £500!

Vistaprint isn't luxurious in that way and it really does depend on what you want. There have been some girls whohave cleerly customised theirs from vista with sparkles, stick on pearls etc. They looked great and will have cost a fraction of the price.

Have you tried asking around on facebook and te likes? It is amazing what you and who you will find on there.

If it helps here is the a photo of part of our menu http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150702303188113.412776.612003112&type=3
from vista - I don't think it looked cheap? However I acknowledge they don't oooze wealth either! They looked prefessionaly and smart and tied in with our 1930's hotel.

I think it's also I like the idea of these places that print the attendees names on the invitations too, to save you writing them on. I can't do lovely calligraphy lol!

Nevermind, I'll get the save the dates sent out and then won't have to think about invitations and stuff for a while. I dare say I'll end up going with something cheapish from the Internet because I just can't justify spending that much money on bits of paper, even if they are lovely textured and beribboned bits of paper lol!

*Sorry meant to add, that linked me to the whole album not just the one picture (and your pics are AMAZING, gorgeous wedding :) ) so I'm not absolutely sure which picture you mean, but nothing in those pictures looks cheap :)

Thanks - Sorry, though it would go straight to the picture. It was theo one with 'Mr and Mrs Hawkins, The Midland Hotel' on it. It was an amazing day, thanks.

You have loads of time to source somewhere. Good luck finding them.

our save the dates don't match our stationary. All our stationary which will go out together match though and I think that's all that matters to me.

I used vista print for our invites, we got folded invitations, I didn't pay extra for the more expensive paper as I don't think many people will keep them, plus once I got them I was really inmpressed with the quality. I did when I ordered the first lot of 10 invitations only order one set so I could see the quality before I ordered the rest.

I am happy with what I have paid for what I got from there. For just under £60 I got 70 invitations, 100 evening invites, 2 guest book pens, post box sign, 10 table number cards, 50 RSVP cards, 50 StD magnets, 250 business cards with transport info on, 2 cotton bags, 2 personalised pens, 100 addressed and 100 blank envelopes.

When I come to send the invitations I have set up a template in Microsoft Publisher to print the names on in the same font as our names. I have printed one off as a trial and I'm happy with it.

Will you have all your wedding stationery matching?

Have ordered free postcards from Vistaprint as the Save The Dates.....but then thought, oh crap, have I committed myself to this Vistaprint design for everything else now??

We can afford to spend a little bit more money on invitations and probably weren't intending to get them on Vistaprint...do you think anyone will notice if the invitations are different to the Save The Dates? Maybe it will keep them guessing?!

In my experience, save the dates are nearly always different to the rest of the stationery - as people get them done earlier and generally from somewhere cheap...so you just expect a business card, magnet etc and I don't think people see it as "counting" as part of the stationery.

From the invite on, I think I notice whether everything's the same or not. I think you'll find that people who are already married themselves will notice this stuff more than people who aren't...

    So true! :rotfl:
I've found myself looking at invites & thinking, bloody hell, these must've cost LOADS!
We just made a simple black & white template and got a local prinitin company to do ours.
But I've seen invites with ribbons, holograms, and all sorts of add-ons since!
Personally, I wasn't bothered about having it all matchy matchy & fancy - I wanted to spend my money on other stuff!
