Try Aviva do not show on comparison sites and generally do a good deal.Best if you can add an older driver or two who have no convictions or penalty points as "named drivers"

Don't use confused.Call someone out of yellow pages, and usually the company will do a search and put you through to the company offering the cheapest quote!
I was 19 for first time insurance and still managed to get it around the 870/year mark, BARGIN in this day and age!!
I personally think calling gets you a better quote than online!

It's impossible to answer your question because insurers take lots of different things into account - postcode, occupation, driver history, their book of claims for that particular vehicle type etc.etc.

I would ring a broker in your area, probably not Swintons as they don't get very good reviews and talk thought with them. Do not be persuaded to put the policy in someone else's name though as this can lead to all sorts of trouble with insurers when they find out - look up "fronting" on google for a detailed explanation.

The polo, although a small vehicle and seemingly ideal first car, may not be, because lots of young drivers have them, meaning that there are a lot of claims in that type of vehicle for that age group!! Best to do the research on insurance costs before buying the car.

There is a thread on here for young driver insurance with lots of tips for trying to minimise the cost. Have a read through that, but invariably adding an older female driver with a clean licence will usually help to bring the cost down.

We went with I-Kube for my son. You have to be with them for at least 6 weeks before taking your test though but they don't increase the premium once the test has been passed. There is a drawback to them which is not ideal for everyone and that is that the car cannot be driven between the hours of 11 pm and 5 am and if you do drive within that time period, you have to pay £100 per night.

Not ideal but it was the only way that we could get any insurance under £2000 for our son. His policy is due for renewal in July, so hopefully he will be able to get insurance without having restrictions on.

  • Try Admiral as they gave me the best quote.

When i was looking at insurance and what car to get i was getting silly prices for the likes of Corsa's, Golfs, Polo's Clio's ect.

Try and get a car that is less favorable with young drivers and you should get a better deal on the insurance.

That's awful.Hard to believe they can expect any one to pay that amount. As previously stated post code you stay in will determine premium.Good luck sadly I think you are going to be spending a lot of time and effort to get reasonable price

OP, try getting quotes for a less fashionable/desireable car, something like an old volvo or rover even with a larger engine it could be a lot cheaper.
