Home insurance - no claims discount situation/query

Hello,

My elderly mother had home insurance until about a year ago but then did not ask me to renew due to a bout of ill health and now wants to take it account again. She has NEVER claimed and has many years of no-claims proof, however, as she has now not had insurance for a year or so, can I still select the appropriate level of no claims when applying for new insurance for her?

Help appreciated.

Most home insurers do not do an NCD but simply ask about your claims history in which case you can say she has been claim free for X years. If you are concerned about the 1 year gap then call the insurer before buying just to make sure it is ok.
