I used to make the actual kit a couple of times, then everything just got dumped in the big lego box and I'd go 'off piste'. My favourite things I built were from my imagination alone. Wise to keep the instructions though but I wouldn't get too precious about it.

TBH, I love lego. I still play with it now (I'm 38). And I still do colouring in :o

You need a lego head box.

    Lol. How very odd!
I wonder if they snap together :D

They're stackable so I'd guess so,you could build your own giant lego person lego storage:D

Does anyone else have a lego mad child?

How do you keep the sets together/store lego etc?

My 6yr old DS is lego mad, and is lucky enough to have been given lots of lego/megabloks etc kits, eg star wars, dr who factory, power rangers etc, plus he has a big tub of bricks etc. Originally we stored each set in its own plastic tub with the instructions for making that kit, but as any 6 year old would, he empties all the tubs out together, mixes the pieces up etc. He's been playing with his lego this morning, and I just went up to his room, and every single kit, plus his big box of bricks have been emptied out onto his bedroom floor - I'm never going to find all the little bits for each set! Some of them have hundreds of tiny pieces!

Is there a sensible way of storing lego? Maybe separate out the blocks by size/type etc? Of course its unrealistic to imagine they'll stay sorted however I do it!

:T:T That's how it's meant to be played with by a 6 year old. The idea of kits is to stimulate the imagination of adults who want the kit to 'do' something they no longer have the imagination to do themselves.

Stick it all in a big box and let him enjoy it.

    It worked for ours.:D

I like those giant lego blocks that shegirl linked to, but they're pretty expensive, and I suspect I'd need several to store all his stuff.

He does have some general brick sets as well as the kits, but he's very imaginative and very into his superheros, Dr Who, power rangers etc, so he usually wants bits of the kits to go into his new creations and wants to mix them up. I think he's beyond the stage of just being happy building simple things with twoers and fourers etc, but at the same time he doesn't necessarily want to sit with the instructions and build the full kits.

I think I might go for the storage bench actually, as I happen to have some "spare!!!" money sitting in my paypal account from selling off some of the childrens' outgrown clothes. Little worried its too cheap though, and might be lousy quality...

Can I come round and play:)? Mine are too old for it now and we've given it all away. I rather miss it:o.

On a serious note, as a previous Lego nut, those Lego boxes look unwieldy, in that the lids don't come off very easily.

I'm progressed from Lego onto programming, and with it, storage! i.e. I'm all about ease of use, sorting and retrieval. An ideal lego storage system will be robust, stackable and see through. A dozen anonymous boxes is for archiving, not tantalisingly accessible.

But are your feet pleased? They'd make a fortune if they could sell a vaccine against the pain of stepping barefoot on a lego block. :D

the lego heads are so cool, got one for my son and you can fit loaddssss in it. his are all mixed up now so i just got a folder with all the instructions if he wants to make one of the sets but most of the time he's just put bits together and makes something himself, don't think theres any easier way of storing them because they always tend to get mixed up.
