When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Morning! Have been waiting for someone to start us off but realised I had better do it!

Have a big day at work as need to go to court.... Anyway things for the day:
  • checked banking & transferred funds into stoozing account - had a mystery payment into my bank, need to work out what it is!
  • book carpark & purchase travel ins
  • call gp to make appt for vacines
  • all meals from stores - fish out of freezer for dinner
  • walk to work? Maybe...
  • go for a run after work
  • maybe go for a sauna tonight
  • check onepoll
  • do studying in lunch break
  • hang washing up on airer

think that's my lot! Have a great day everyone x

  • Good morning all and thanks to determined new ms for starting us off!

OH's student loan came in on sat so he has passed me the £600 he owes me for his new guitar, so has already been paid off the cc (must update signature!)

I also made a huge batch of lamb soup (made the stock from left over lamb bones and picked over them for all the little bits of meat - very good going!)

And I have nearly finished the crocheted cushion cover, but I ran out of wool.

    So today's plan is:

Check online banking (done - all as expected)

Update speadsheets/signature to account for the £600

Make sure I cook sensible dinner tonight

Have brought in food from home for lunch (last of the monster batch of chilli)

    Check onepoll

Possibly batch cook something tonight, but am running low on onions etc and cannot really afford to replace. Had to bin some as they had gone off :(

Well have a good one everybody :)

  • Morning all

Quiet on here this morning. The thread is normally buzzing by now... I'm back at work now after my lovely fortnight off, but have been awol for a couple of days after a massive night out last Thursday followed by a hectic weekend getting ready to come back to work.
    Things for today
;) checked banking (looking poor after my accidental £200 overpayment to nursery and wedding spends this month).
    ;) Write evening wedding invites
    ;) Finish marking Y11 coursework
    ;) Flylady
;) Washing done and left for OH to hang out
;) list of jobs for OH to do as he's still off on the sick
;) speak to my sister re the pair of us getting together to do some exercise for cheap or free
    Have a good day everyone.
    :)

Thanks for starting us off DMS.

    Today I have/will -

    - PAY OFF BARCLAYS OVERDRAFT IN FULL!! :j:T:j
    - Meals from stores - porridge for breakfast, cottage cheese and salad for lunch and egg fried yummyness for dinner.
    - Checked online banking and all looks good.
    - Aerobics class later this evening (included in gym membership, amazing how much better value membership is than paying for individual classes - the cost of 1 week of clases = 1 month's membership which also includes swimming, gym and saunas!)
    - Arranged for OH to get his free 7 day gym pass this week.
    - Check listings on ebay and answer questions.
    - Print off Music Magpie stuff at work and package up DVDs.
    - Book cheapo train ticket to London later in the month.

Umming and aaahhhing over transferring to First Direct...currently with Santander and not really fussed about remaining with them - what to others think??
Clearing debt to save for a simple wedding.
Starting 2016 With debt of £7700

    Hi there everyone:hello:

Thanks DNMS for starting us off...good to see mystery payments in (rather than out!)

Nik - I hear FD have better customer service so I wouldn't be loyal to Santand*r and well done re OD:beer:

OK so have not been posting much but am back all guns blazing this week so today I will:

    - make PADS and check banking (DONE: OH has had a bigger payment than he expected for freelance work..woo hoo:j:j. So made some really big PADs immediately and an OP to the mortgage too. Will be off to update sigs and make plans later - its such good news after some unexpected bills eg. Tax and laptop repairs..and maybe a new snowboard. he cracked the core of the year old one  and S&R say its irreparable:eek:..I say get a second opinion!)
    - order an online delivery from Sainsbugs using the MOC (DONE: used a list but didnt want to pay delivery either so have upped it to £100 including staples)
    - update spends spreaddies for last few days..NSD No.6 bagged yesterday so thats good news
    - put washing on low and then dry on line
    - put a loaf on in BM
    - meet OH for a coffee rather than lunch..we need to see more of each other. Bit disconnected at mo:(...lots going on some of which is very stressful so need to work on quality time where we can
    - decluttered 4 bags of clothes and shoes to my neice. My sis was very pleased and I was pleased to see them go to a good home! DONE:)
    - have promised DC a snack on way home from new (cheaper!) swimming lessons...will keep it under £10 and make a fish pie from stores for proper tea
    - chooks doing really well on eggs..neighbours got 6 when we were away and they were looking after the menagerie..they were really pleased. Long may it continue and the broodiness be kept at bay!!
    - weather looking good - am hoping to break the £500 barrier on the panels. I have been forecasting £512 min over a full year (ending end June) so if we can get there by mid April I will be very pleased:D. The rest can all go towards the additional money I need to raise on the POAMAYC challenge

Think thats it - have a good day folks

  • Good afternoon all

So I'm back from holiday. Hope you all had lovely MSE weekends.

    Today I will:
Washing on (low heat) and on the airer to dry
Clean house from top to bottom (worried it is only the dirt holding it together though)
Send a friend my bank details as she owes me a little money from the w/end
Change foreign currency back to £s
Grocery shopping - make list, stick to it!, use changed money to pay (surprised I had and left over so a little brucie bonus)
Relax and get ready to return to work tomorrow.

    Have a good day y'all

    S x
I have enough money for the rest of my life... as long as I never have to pay for anything again!
