Electricity Meter

The big switch on the right, does this mean any body with a meter box key could basically switch the whole power off to my new property?

    Yes. That's how ALL meter cupboards work.

    (and quite handy if you have an electrical fire, as my old next door neighbour discovered when she set the grill alight and came knocking on my front door in a blind panic, wearing only a bra and G-string.... :D)

    If you've got gas, they can turn that off as well.

    Yes, its an isolator switch. So, if you rewired the property, your Sparky can do it and you don't need an engineer out to remove the meter fuse and to come back later to replace the fuse.
    :rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:

    Am I right in saying that from the photograph the cut-out fuse is not sealed?

    Yes, nothing there. Looking at the cutout it looks like it can take 2 suppliers, which is the old fashioned way of doing it. So, perhaps someones supply has her removed and its not been resealed???
