Medion PC problems - saga of the broken PC

To cut a very long story short.
For about 3 months I have had problems turning my pc on. Fortunately I thought at least I am still in warranty.
I have telephoned Medion helpdesk about 15 - 20 times over this period on an 0870 number. My average wait to speak to a cs agent is 20 minutes so goodness knows what my phone bill we be. Various solutions included removing everything from the PC and getting me to reinstall all drivers etc which took ages only for the pc still not to start up yet again.
Anyway after about their 10th telephone fix they sent an engineer out. Who incidentally failed to show up the first time. He was unable to fix it when he did show. Medion then arranged for it to be collected from my house. A week later returned with a note advising they had changed the motherboard etc, so I thought great at last it is fixed.
But you guessed it - when I tried to start it up it wouldn't go on. When it is on it works fine so I think that is why they thought it was ok. They are returning Monday to collect it.
Now I am a reasonable normally pacifist person but I feel like taking that PC personally to Medion and throwing it through their window and taking a sledgehammer to their cars. I fee like Michael Douglas in that film were he loses the plot totally.
I will now have had to take 6 days off work to be in to either have it repaired or collected / returned. I estimate that I have spent at least 15 hours of my own time on the phoone to them or doing their blinking fixes.
Give them their due they are mostly very pleasant and helpful on the phone and I keep thinking they know what they are talking about and it will now be fixed.
I really feel like I am losing the plot over all this and am tempted just to go out and buy another PC. Alternatively just forget computers all together as they are great when working but a bas**ard when not.
Any comments gratefully appreciated.

Assuming that you bought this PC from Aldi, explain exactly what has happened to the manager and they should give you a full refund. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I've just registered on this forum and tried to post a long winded solution, but it got deleted some how so before I start typing it all over again this is a test reply.0

Here goes:
I've had similar problems with my Medion PC, baught about 5 years ago. Tried Medion helpline but their online support I found more helpful, although not much help if your computer's bust!
From what I can gather the problem is caused my excess static on the motherboard or card reader. It has also been suggested I should change the memory, but I'm not convinced. it probably won't cure the problem completely, but try the following:
Before you turn on the computer ensure all peripherals, including the monitor are turned off. Don't turn any of them on ontil the machine has finished booting. You'll know it has finished when the num lock light on the keboard stays on continiously.
If it doesn't boot, turn the machine off using the small power switch on the back of the case, but ensure the computer is still plugged in at the wall. Press and hold in the power switch on the front for at least 1 minute. This should release the static. Turn it on at the back again and start it up as outlined above, without peripherals on.
If it still doesn't work repeat the process until it does.
I know it's a pain but I've learned to live with it and usually my machine boots first time now.
Hope this helps! If this doesn't post this time I really can't be bothered to type it all again, sorry - but then you won't know anyway!0 -
I've also had long waits trying to get through - managed to use the geographical number 01793 715698 successfully, it's probably the least of your worries but it might help to cut the phone bill a bit.0
