Ebay buyers taking the Michael

Hi,

I've sold a load of items on ebay as auctions style listings recently and for the most part it's gone fine, however I checked my messages today and had return requests from 2 buyers. One of them gave no reason for wanting a refund, the other I'm pretty sure is just taking the Mick, I put lots of photos up for everything I sold and described it fairly (where there was a mark on a jacket I stated there was a mark, where shoes were used I didn't try and blag them as new etc simples).

My questions is- do I have to refund these people? Have done a bit of reading and it seems DSRs don't apply to ebay auction style listings. The description on the items said 'Returns accepted' but does that mean I have to, no matter what crackpot reason for needing one these people come up with? If I do have to then who pays the postage?

Any help would be appreciated thank you! Thoroughly fed up!

You've put "Returns accepted" on them, of course you have to accept returns.

I agree, I think the clue is in the 'returns accepted' statement.

I think that would be by negotiation. If they are returning something that doesn't match the desscription, then it would probably be upto you to pay, but if the listing had all the details correctly yet they decided they just changed their minds, I would let them pay their own return postage. Tell them to ensure it is tracked (or doubtless this will just be the start of the grief!)

Was it a buy it now auction and are you acting as a trader?
  • You are not the only one this is happening to, ebay have made it a buyers payback paradise. I now transfer funds straight away and my card is at its max all the time, ebay dont give a damm about sellers and yet we pay them.I would not pay the postage as there was nothing wrong in your listing.

Thank you everyone for your replies

I'm not acting as a trader, just little old me trying to make ends meet by selling things I don't use/wear anymore. I've done everything as an auction, no buy it now options.

I've calmed down a bit now but it's still quite upsetting that people can get away with doing that to you. They can make out you've ripped them off when it's quite the other way around. If I'd genuinely stuffed up and not accurately described something I wouldn't mind but that's not the case with these 2.

I got a horrible message from one of the buyers saying she wouldn't return the item (a pair of shoes) after all as she didn't want me to try and 'rip off another poor soul' she insisted I only put one photo up even though you can still click on the listing and see 5 photos of them from all angles. Ebay troll much?! Hopefully that's the last I'll hear from her.

The other one (a jacket) is still being a nightmare but I've offered her a refund anyway (not including postage costs) if she really wants to return. It's so frustrating though as the description said there were marks on the front and now she's trying to make out I wasn't honest about them! Try reading the listing properly woman! Argh! Aaand breathe.

You'd think ebay would have a fairer policy towards sellers given how much they make from all the fees!

Thanks again all, I hope you have better luck with your ebaying endeavours!

Whether your a trader or not is not relevant, eBay allows returns and you agreed to their terms.

However when a buyer opens a claim eBay insist the buyer return it and provide tracking before a refund is issued. If the buyers are refusing then that's tough on them as they won't get their refund.

eBay buyers can be a nightmare at the best of times

As you are now doubtless very familiar, ebay is full of complete idiots.
