as far as i know ,unlabled ''blocks'' of corned beef are sold at special auctions in argentina [ as with fruit in south africa] and buyers of various countries have them labled for delivery , the amount is enormous ,in MN one load filled hold various well known uk brands lables, few years ago , but now by container load worldwide.the ones from brazil have brazil stamped on top/base and not as good.

What I found interesting was a brand of CB in Asda that was French. Since when have the French been making it?

I always open top and bottom with can opener, then push out!

I love the stuff, except for the tiny flaps of skin _pale_

does anyone know a make which doesn't have skin flaps?

Is that skin? I'd always assumed it was the shredded walls of veins or arteries.

  • What do you mean by skin flaps? I haven't ever noticed these mercifully, but am a bit unsure now......

It's like... All the corned beef is reddish brown right? these little flaps are tiny bits of shredded whitey-pink stuff.... I'll go see if I've got a tin and take a pic ;)

If there is one it will be expensive. Part of the reason things are cheap is because they use the parts that others don't want.

I don't think beef has 'skin'. It has hide, and that most certainly isn't edible and is far too useful as leather to end up in a tin!

Asda had it in stock on Thurs for £1.59. I bought 3 tins just to stock up the cupboards.
