If you can afford orijen, and it agrees with your dog (it's too rich for some). Then there is no better dry food. Some as good, but no better.

I'm a fan of Applaws dried food, a very similar composition to Origen but not as pricey. I feed my dog half Applaws dried and half Lily's Kitchen (tinned), which smells so good I could eat it myself.

We privately rehomed a dog (arranged by his breeder) who was put on Hills science plan by his previous owner on vet recommendation as every so often he would throw up bile. I hated the smell of it, so swapped him onto Orijen. He hasn't had the problem since. Our previous dog went from being an bin raiding fussy eater, to wolfing Orijen down when we swapped her to it as well.

I'd you can afford it, give it a go.
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!

I found Orijen to be very good, but very expensive. Burns did horrible things to my dogs so I won't touch it with a bargepole. Have you tried Gentle dog food?

Another fan of Applaws here. Made in the UK too, which is another bonus afaic
  • You only get what you pay for and if potatoes and/or sweet potatoes or rice are high on the list of ingredients, you are paying for bulk. Dogs get fibre and carbohydrates from vegetables and fruit so the diet of Orijen which contains 80% meat, fish, offal, etc and 20% fruit and vegetables IMO is ideal. No cheap bulk. A bag of Orijen lasts me longer than other foods and in the long run doesn't come out expensive. The dog's stools are always firm and consistent, good digestion, etc.

Don't confuse Sweet Potatoes with ordinary "white" Potatoes, they are two totally different & unrelated vegetables.

Sweet Potatoes are packed with natural antoxidants, Vitamins, minerals & soluble fiber (thought to help with stable insulin levels)

They are considered a very healthy addition to a dogs diet.
Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!
  • Orijen is good, but its pricey. If you can afford it, I would go for it personalyl :)

I have three large dogs, they eat James Wellbeloved but once my last 2 sacks are finished I'm swapping to Arden Grange, as it still seems to be a decent food and it about £10/£15 cheaper depending on what offers are on at the time.

Have a look at this site...you can put in your budget and dogs weight and it will give you all the options and reviews...

  • We feed Barking Heads Salmon which has been great, but we are also trying a RAW diet for our other dog and I have to admit that it's gone down really really well, definitely the most popular meal of choice! But Orijen are meant to be a really great food, there is a website that rates all the pet foods, maybe have a look there? I think there is another premium one which was released recently but it was even more expensive than Orijen!
  • DH started this thread 2 years ago - surprised to see it still going - so I thought I would update you all. Both dogs going strong on Orijen and really enjoy it. We order the 2 x 13kg economy packs from zoo plus and get cash back via TCB each time. It lasts ages as we don't need to feed them as much in volume as we did other brands. Thanks for everyones advice.
