Faulty Pocket PC

I bought a new Pocket PC/PDA from the Internet and had problems with it for the first 3 or 4 days so I tried various software settings but eventually called tech support who thought it was a hardware fault so I returned it to their service centre for repair.

The unit came back 8 days later and they'd put a new mainboard in it - the problem was fixed but it had no wireless capability. I called them up again and the only conclusion they and I could come to was that they'd fitted the wrong mainboard so I sent it back to them the same day.

That was over 2 weeks ago now and I called them yesterday and they said they are waiting for the spare part to come in and have no ETA at the moment.

So basically I bought the unit at the end of January but have only had it in my hands for a few days and even then it was so unreliable I couldn't use it.

Would it be unreasonable for me to ask for a new unit or should I wait for it to be repaired when they have no idea of timescale? and should I pursue it with the supplier or with the manufacturer as it is the manufacturer that I have returned it to for repair?

Since you were never able to use this unit it's best to complain to the supplier and ask for a replacement.

You went about things the wrong way, you should have contacted the supplier before returning it for repair.

Contact the supplier and inform them what has happened and tell them your not happy and would like to return the PDA for replacement or refund as it is not sutable for the purpose see what they say, they may just say return it and deal with your request. Distant selling regs would have covered you if you had returned it within a reasonable time.

If they agree to swap/refund then ask the repair company to put your PDA together and return it to you.

Another thing you could look at is if you paid by credit card inform the credit card company to do a charge back to recover the money.
  • Thanks, suppose I caught in the trap of calling the manufacturer for help then them asking me to sending it back to them and didn't think of the distance selling regs.

I've contacted the supplier now so I'll see what response I get back but the chargeback is an option.
