Has the new router improved my speed or just coincidence?

Hi all, I've been with Orange broadband since November last year. They sent me a Netgear router back then but I never used it as my buffalo one was fine. Then the buffalo kept dropping so we tried the Netgear which would not connect, contacted Orange and they sent me a bright box. The buffalo was working fine again and I actually did a speed test on Thursday and the download was 3.22 mb/s. I changed to the bright box this morning as we couldn't access internet. I've just done a speed test and it has came back with 5.66 mb/s. Is this purely down to using the new router or is it because I tested on different days/times? Just wondering if I can expect to keep this speed?
Many thanks

What is probably more important to know at this time are the router stats (attenuation, SNR, sync speed). These will help us identify what sort of speeds you could be getting.
Note however that with any speed test, the target server used and time of day can play a big part in any result you see.0 -

Could you tell me how to find that information please? I have the information to log into the router's set up page if that is it?

That gum you like is coming back in style.0

It is quite possible a new router is faster. THey use different chipsets for the ADSL modem side and some are a lot better than others when it comes to noise and interference, giving you higher speeds.0

I've been with orange for years & apart from when I paid to go from 1 to1.5 mb they have never told me about speed increase (4.3 just now, around 3.4 last time I checked a few months ago).
Not that it matters any more as I'm going to get 62mb on BT for about £4 more than I pay now in total.0 -

When I worked for Horange doing the changeover from LLU to WBC,we found that a few non-orange routers, especially older models, were causing a lot of low speed & no connect issues.0
