Avast will still be running, it just means the UI (User Interface) wont be accessible from the system tray.

It's a simple reg fix to reinstate it.

First create a restore point, just to be on the safe side.

Then,

• Copy the contents of the Code Box below to Notepad.
• Click Format and ensure Word Wrap is unchecked.
• Click File > Save as...
• Name the file as fix.reg
• Change the Save as Type to All Files
• Save it to the desktop

• Double-click the fix.reg file.
• Click Yes to the prompt to add the information to the registry.
• Reboot.
