courior company woes

good morning everyone,
im having some problems with a courier company, and was hoping someone might have some advice.
A friend had some sporting equipment of mine, and as we werent going to see each other for a while he posted it down to me using the courier company 'Yodel'
First of all it went missing while in there care. afte 8 days, numerous phone calls and lots of failed promises by them to call me back,it finally turned up.
I wasnt home when it arrived, so my partner signed for it without opening it up to check. when i got home i found the package in a terrible state. Ripped, bent in the middle, covered in bootprints...
I opened it up to find it had been snapped clean in half! now this is made of STEEL, i'd struggle to break it even if i was trying!
Now im struggling to get any response from them. ive been told by them that they probably wont cover it with insurance, and now they wont reply to my emails or return my phone calls.
the item value is about £350. i cant afford to replace it so i really need this sorted! clearly they have given absolutly no care or consideration to my property, so surely im owed some kind of compensation for it?
any advice?
thanks, Rich

who engaged Yodel?
If it was your friend then only your friend has the contract with them, and only they can dispute the process with the courier.
If its damaged, you will be covered for the cost of coverage provided by default unless further insurance or liability was taken out for the transportation of the item.
Your compensation will be equal to the amount taken out by the person who agreed to the price paid for the service and its features included for that price.
If no further coverage was taken out then you will need to find a way to buy a £350 replacement.0 -
