not good enough im afraid
tell mechanic to invest in some op-com and a cheap laptop off the bay
even i cant work on problems these days without guidance of a scan
OPCOM is for Opal and is not really for UK use and not compatible for some tasks, it's VAUXCOM they need on the laptop.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
Sorry to be thick guys but if the 'spanner/car' error light is not on how on earth will the error be found??? Confused...!0

On Vauxhall CDTi cars, the car with spanner light means water in fuel filter or immobiliser fault, the engine symbol means emission problem, an EGR fault would be more likely to illuminate the latter, as mentioned earlier getting the car hooked up to VAUXCOM would tell you more.
That might mean a trip to a maindealer or Vauxhall specialist.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

If it lights up detecting a fault it's stored on the ECU even if the fault ceases to be flagged.
It's stored until you go in read them faults and clear the ECU of past faults.0 -
Hi DEBTMONKEY1A,
Did you manage to sort your starting problem with the corsa? And was it the EGR valve?
Thanks. Ian0 -
White smoke more likely a fuelling issue. Unburnt fuel.
Even new glowplugs can be faulty.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Normally yes, but Vauxhall seem to have a different take on fault-lights, and the EGR valve sticking or failing lights the spanner/car not the engine management warning. (This is from experience with both a 55 and 07 plate Corsa C, checked with OPCOM reader) I guess if left stuck then the emissions could reach the point where they trip the engine lamp but mine didn't get that far before I fixed the stuck valves!0 -
Anyone checked compressions?0

I'm guessing they fixed it in the last 18 months.0

Theres a lot of conflicting and ropey advice going on here. The symptoms do not sound like a stuck egr. This sounds like the glow plug relay is knackered and possibly one of the plugs. This would cause starting issues from time to time but not every time, and also the car and spanner light will flip on intermittantly. I have this issue on my 1.3 cdti at the moment with the z13dtj block. I know that my cylinder 3 is not firing from cold every time causing a bit of a stumble. To cirxumvent this, on a cold morning i'll turn the key to ignition position 3 and wait for the plugs light to go out several times before starting the engine. I'd deffo go for changing the relay - it'll show a fault code on vauxhall tech2 for both the plugs and rwlay if it is the issue.0
