Their extended warranty scheme (5 years for a straight 10% of the price regardless) is the best around.

Thanks for all the positive comments. It convinced me to go there and have a look. It was either that or painting the bathroom!

Pleased to say the staff lived up to their reputation. Recommended a Denon AVR1812. Supposedly a basic model but looks perfectly good for what I want (and £90 cheaper than Superfi).
Not that I'd have gone to Superfi. Unfortunately all their shops look to be in town or city centres, and my closest one, Manchester, isn't open on a Sunday. It'd take more than a new hi-fi to get me fighting through city centre crowds on a busy Saturday.

They don't have a listening room at Preston but were quite happy to sell saying that I could return it within a week or two if I wasn't happy with it. I declined as I want to get the decorating finished before I start playing with any new toys, but I'll be going back for it next weekend, possibly sooner if I feel like taking on the rush-hour traffic.

It's not 'free', it's factored into their prices.

If you are buying at the cheapest price you can find then it certainly is free to the customer as you are paying no more than anywhere else

But when JL price match they only do it on the same terms. So if matching RS, they will only match the RS price plus their optional 5 year warranty.

When I bought my 42" Samsung 2 months ago, JL were £20 cheaper than RS (without the warranty). And JL delivered for free (RS don't). Both shops have very keen pricing.

(One thing to watch for with JL is that in store pricing can sometimes be cheaper than the web, but you can order by phone from your local store at their price and still get free delivery and free 5 year warranty).
