Help needed with insurance claim

Hi - does anyone know what the official body is that governs insurers? My friend is having some terrible problems with her insurers on a claim that wasn't her fault but is taking near on a year to sort out. Her persistent calls have managed to get her updates and a confession from the insurers that they've handled the situation in a less than satisfactory manner - but it's not improved things at all.

Who can she go to as a next step to complain?

Any advice massively welcome.

I suggest you formally complain in writing to the the insurer. Alternatively you could complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service (http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/). The FOS will probably refer the matter back to the insurer (as you have not reached a deadlock) but it should light a fire under their backsides.

    HTH.

Thanks - will tell her to try this. Hopefully it will give them a good kick!

Is the claim against her own insurance company or that of another person, e.g. another driver?

If it is the latter the FSO will not normally get involved as she is a third party to the contract of insurance.
To clarify, insurer = 1st party, other driver = 2nd party and your friend = third party.

FSO normally only gets involved in policy holder disputes with their own insurers.
