Northern Rail - No To Mobility Scooter Travel !
Just a Heads Up if you are considering travelling with Northern Rail and use a Mobility Scooter - You Cannot Travel
O/H booked travel with Northern Rail after making sure they had Disabled access to the train available , Wheelchair Disabled access available via Ramp shows on web site , when train arrived conductor stated " We dont accept Mobility Scooters , Health & Safety Rules you Know "
Could have understood this if the Scooter was a large all terrain model but seeing as the footprint on o/h`s model is less than a manual wheelchair was a bit stymied with this rule !
O/H was told if you can fold it down and carry it on like hand luggage thats OK ??? `scuse me ? Disabled traveller ?
The mind boggles !
If the website had said that we would not have bought tickets !!
This information is buried away in FAQ`s section , surely this should be on the accessability statement page not in FAQ`s ?
So please be aware of this fact if thinking of travelling on a Northern Rail route !
Added Note :
O/H has travelled all over France, Belguim , Holland and Germany using his Mobility Scooter on Planes , Trains and Buses with No problems and with some excellent assisitance from Station Staff and Handlers !
Only in the UK is this a Problem ? ):

The problem seems to arise from the wide variety of mobility scooters but the policies are given on the Association of Train Operating Companies' website for comparison:
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/passenger_services/disabled_passengers/wheelchairs_scooters.html
It might also help to understand the complexity of the decision making process to see if your O/H's mobility scooter would qualify for a First Great Western Mobility Scooter permit:
